About this artist
Alexandria Turner
I grew up in a small village in Wiltshire, and I’ve drawn ever since my baby hands were able to pick up a pencil. My first drawings were primarily of strangely dressed women at balls, accompanied by birds and fish. School followed, where many a despairing teacher told me off for doodling in my exercise books. I then decided it might be a good idea to try and actually make a career out of this whole drawing thing, so I packed my bags and off I went to University College Falmouth, where I increased my bird-women-fish-ball repertoire to include, well, everything, and managed to get a BA in Illustration too while I was at it.
I draw my images by hand, and then add the colour digitally. I’m fascinated in history and different cultures, and I like to make pictures that encourage kids to learn, hopefully by making them laugh at the same time.
When I’m not hunched over my drawing board or computer, I love to bake and go for walks, which leads me to believe that I may have been a farmer’s wife in a past life (that rhymes!). I also like reading and watching films (musicals are my guilty pleasure) and drink obscene amounts of tea!
