Artists : Sharon Harmer

After a bit of a convoluted route following University and travelling I returned to my first love of art, graduating in illustration in 1998, and I have been working as a professional freelance illustrator ever since. I work in all areas of illustration but predominantly children’s books. I have worked on around 50 picture books, pre-school board and novelty books and educational books for many publishers Worldwide including OUP, Pearson, Simon & Schuster and Penguin.

I also enjoy the challenge and fast turn around of editorial work and have previously done much work for Times Educational Supplement.

I use a mixture of hand rendered line, painted textures and Photoshop to create my artwork. I am inspired by nature, travel, retro design, collage and print, abstract art, Japanese art, quirky characters, colour, patterns and texture.

I live just along the coast from Brighton where I enjoy tending my allotment and garden and walking on the beach and downs, plus good food and watching films.

I am a member of the Association of Illustrators and Brighton Illustrators Group.
